Terms and Conditions of Business

  • Terms used to describe the business or anybody acting on the businesses behalf may include We, I, us, our, Simon Scholes, SSEC or Mylor Heating.

  • There are 2 types of pricing structure operated. Either standard day work rate (£50p/h & minimum 2 hours). From an estimate or any other booked / diagnostic visit. Where the customer pays by the hour for all services used including travel base to base. Or fixed price contract works, All fixed price works are form fixed price quotation. 
  • If we give an estimate and not a quote this is an educated guess to what a job will cost and how long a job will take. This may vary dramatically from the real cost especially if unforeseen problems occur. Customers will only be charged for the actual cost of works undertaken, which in some cases is less than the estimate. Works carried out on top of what was specifically estimated or quoted for will be charged as extra at the applicable current rate.
  • If you require a fixed price quotation, please ask this will typically be more than the estimate to cover contingencies if finish times are sooner or later or materials become cheaper the price will not change. A time limit may also be applied to how long the quote will be held for. Any additional works or items not quoted or estimated for will be charged as extras at the current day rate.
  • Start and finish times may vary due to the weather, supplies or other unforeseen circumstances.
  • Costs of some specialist tools and equipment including any associated consumables that may need be bought or hired at our discretion for specific works will be passed on to the customer who shall be informed of this prior unless specifically quoted for we retain the right to withhold any item included by this and make a handling charge on these items typically 20% of the recommended retail price. Any special order items must be paid for in advance and are non returnable.
  • We will need gain access to properties where any work is undertaken, we also require access to electricity and other services and to also store materials.
  • Any time spent waiting to gain access, or cancellation of booked appointments with less than 72 hours notice will be chargeable at SSEC’s standard day work rate
  • Any electrical testing will require any plug in equipment to be removed from that circuit, we will not be held responsible for any loss or damage due to non compliance.
  • For electrical testing or any work that requires electrical testing access will need to be gained to the source of supply, all distribution boards, all outlets, switches, controls etc alongside any  other services where they are metered and/or enter the property.
  • Clear unrestricted access will be required to the work area and surrounding area, any time spent clearing customers belonging or debris will be charged at day rate unless specifically quoted for.
  • We will hold no responsibility for any losses or damage due to the work area having not been sufficiently cleared.
  • The right is reserved to subcontract out part or all of any work undertaken.
  • Subcontractors act on behalf and on instruction for us but are covered by there own insurances, terms and conditions. Any shortfall in their insurance is covered by SSEC’s own insurances.
  • Our suppliers will act under their own insurances whilst on any customer’s premises. 
  • We make a small handling charge on materials that we provide, if customers wish to source their own materials please discuss this prior to any purchases we make.
  • All installations come with a standard labour and materials warranty of 12 months, some materials may carry manufacturers extended warranty’s which do not include labour for removal and or refitting.
  • We will not be liable for mistakes that have occurred due to lack of, poor or unclear specification from the customer or any problems arising from materials that they have supplied. Should there be a change of specification all work prior to this will be chargeable.
  • All new materials supplied by us carry the standard manufactures warranty for that product no warranty is given or implied for second hand materials. The cost of replacement and fitting is not covered for materials supplied by the customer.
  • Materials supplied by us will incur a handling charge decided at our discretion typically 20%.
  • •We hold public liability insurance for up to £2 million, and professional indemnity insurance of £250,000 no liability for damages will be held above this.
  • We may ask for the foreseeable material cost and other costs at our discretion prior to starting as a deposit
  • For jobs over £200 or for customers with poor credit we may request at our discretion part or full payment of foreseen costs before work is undertaken 
  • Jobs over 1 week will require stage payments weekly for work that has been carried out.
  • If there is to be a delay of more than 2 weeks on stage payment jobs then an invoice will be raised for the aspect that has been completed prior to the delay.
  • On completion an invoice will be issued that must be settled within 10 days. 
  • Should any issues or disputes arise then these are to be discussed with us prior to the end of the 10 day payment period, before any solution can be made.
  • Debt recovery and or legal action including court/ legal costs and SSEC’s labour costs pursuing any debt. Plus interest at 8% per annum over the bank of engaland base rate will be initiated for all unpaid invoices unless agreed otherwise. All incurred cost will be added to the amount outstanding
  • Any mileage or transportation costs including time allowances for this will be chargeable at the current rate of £1 per mile each way.
  • Any time spent collecting supplies or completing administration or design work for a specific job will be chargeable, additionally design work is subject to the current indemnity surcharge.
  • Customers will be responsible for all waste generated at their property and its disposal. Disposal and handling of waste by us will be chargeable including time taken for this. The current rate for up to 300kg (or one load) is £100, larger loads will require a skip which can be quoted for when the work is ordered.
